Middle School Christian Service

The Middle School students (grades 5-8) from Liberty Bible Academy in Mason invaded the neighborhood next to their school on Old Irwin-Simpson Road last Thursday with rakes and plenty of leaf bags. They were on a mission: "No leaf left behind!" Cole Branham, one of the sixth-grade boys quipped. They began at the house of our 81-year-old neighbor who has a very large yard. Split into four teams, the twenty students with two teachers and two parent volunteers attacked the leaves with a vengeance.  They worked together as a team, raking the leaves into small piles then bagging them. A half hour later when the leaf blower was going, Carroll Weller came out amazed at what was happening in his yard! He went back in to get his camera because "no one would believe me when I tell them about these kids! This is wonderful!" Two hours later, over 30 bags of leaves, and one huge pile, the students each took a turn at jumping in the pile before heading back to school with a feeling of accomplishment for conquering the leaves in one huge yard and being a blessing to someone else. "I never knew community service could be so fun!" Rachel Honerlaw exclaimed. They can't wait to do it again soon! Students in each grade at LBA do at least two service projects a year.
